That's more a matter of social status and stature. Genes (some of which handle our immune systems) do, however, turn on and off depending upon environment and nutrition. Both of these have a tendency to change over the decades and kids raised cleaner than normal do not always grow up into a lifestyle of the rich, famous and healthy, a majority of whom drop down to the bottom of that social ladder -- or sliding board, sometimes even off a cliff into homelessness.

To counter this, though, I believe our homeless population might be doing surprisingly well in this pandemic.

Over the past couple hundred years the human race has experienced amazing advances that assist in so many ways, ways unimaginable to our great great grandparents, or the nation's founding fathers. Advances that will likely support our next step along the evolutionary trail.

Just doing a lot of open thinking on the subject. Time will have to measure the final outcome of COVID-19.

I don't think you can make a blanket statement that the entire pandemic is the result of rising hygiene and sanitation standards. But your point is reasonable, and no doubt it's true that people in the most advanced societies may be losing biological immunities to some degree.

But answer this: By that logic, people in the least advanced societies should have an innate resistance to the virus, but it's not working out that way. Infection rates around the world seem tied to exposure (e.g. international travel, personal contact), and not affected by any innate immunity.

At least, so it seems, in a landscape of partial and rapidly-changing information. But at this point I wouldn't advocate loosening sanitation standards in hope of tormenting kids' immune systems into being stronger.

As I write this, I'm listening to the Secretary of the Navy, addressing the crew of the Theodore Roosevelt, calling their captain "stupid", and warning the sailors to never talk to the media, because of its partisan bias. I stand by my thesis that that kind of thinking invites punishment by natural selection. Captain Crozier is a hero, in my judgment, and the kind of fools who would fire him deserve a Darwin Award.

I'll probably get mail for this, but...

I was wondering if the pandemic might be a result of raising kids far too clean and with nearly all of them afraid to climb a tree, run barefoot through the mud puddles and actually walk up to docile farm animals.

Sort of a way to selectively thin the herds...

Aw, come on Tech, you forgot to point out that:

The Administration disabled the pandemic response team. One has to ask the question if that was on purpose?

Why exactly did POTUS* go to Walter Reed mid-November, a day after the first known case? Supposedly the first half of his annual physical; second half pending. Does the turmeric he applies to his face act as a viral block? People are asking. Not experts who have spent their entire careers studying their field, but people who google, or see Christ in toast.

You totally forgot to include 5G. Hope your Faraday cage's mesh spacing blocks that shit.

Come on Tech, I was hoping for better. Still entertaining, though.

Be well. And stop fucking with the timeline. It doesn't seem to be helping.

You deserve everything that is coming, and I hope you are one of the first to be destroyed in the flames to come.

How is your retirement looking, how secure is your job? Will you be returning your $1200 payout from the government?

Will you soon be one of the 10's of millions you contemptuously dismissed as 'takers'?

We will soon find out... I hope your fellow citizens show you the same compassion you showed others, and spit in your face.

Tired of winning yet, asshole?

Except now you are a gleeful accomplice in the mass murder of American citizens.

You deserve every bit of the pain that is coming to all Americans... unfortunately most Americans will be innocent victims.

You giggled and cheered as you mindlessly helped throw wood on the fire... an insane little arsonist. The flames are now destroying countless millions of lives, killing tens or hundreds of thousands of your fellow citizens.

I genuinely hope that YOUR turn in the flame is longer and more agonizing than most.
