Well, Dad took it outside to demonstrate for his son. The chopper raised up about 10 feet, did a slow turn, then shot straight up. At about 50 feet, the wind caught it and it was gone.

I worked hard on not laughing and went back into the apartment.

They took a LIDAR generated point cloud of the interior of a lava tube, turned it into a mesh and applied a 360 picture of the environment to the mesh... you could put on VR goggles and move around the lavatube... there were weird areas of missing data where the LIDAR and camera were shadowed by foreground objects, but it was quite interesting... especially when you thought about how this could be done for Lava tubes on the moon or Mars...

I got an Oculus in the Before Time. Pretty amazing. While I am used to stereoscopic viewing this VR stuff is pretty intense. Navigating the ISS is enough to make one dizzy. Been to a couple of museums, too, and a walk in a mountain town in Tuscany.

I've been trying to get it to work with any of my modeling programs. Not just to view models, but to actively work on them, creating models as if I were in them. Haven't worked it out yet.

What a great way to teach geology in this new weirdness.

If you are talking about the eclipse videos I THINK there is a way - they won't appear 3d of course, but when you turn your head you could look around... I think I played them that way once.

The computer generated abstract one COULD be re-rendered to be a VR compatible video in 3d - I think that is something I could do in Blender... I only have a headset that my phone plugs into to play with VR- some of the games available are impressive... been debating investing in an OCULUS- but probably won't...

It was just dumb luck that it came down on the side of the road where I could pick it up...
