would eat you and everyone you know. And play with your semi-conscious body for a disturbingly long time before it did. Grew up with a Siamese that lived to 20. I saw that cat do some horrible things.

I read it long ago in my youth titled "Daybreak 2250 A.D." by Andre Norton.

It involved a young man in a post-apocalyptic environment -- supposedly Earth. People were living as one might image cave dwellers a hundred thousand years ago. He was a curious fellow and enjoyed hunting and adventure. His hunting companion was a Siamese cat, weighing in at approx. 200 lbs. Big, powerful hunter.

Amazon has it!

Pretty cool book for a kid.

He's old. What, seventeen now? Was feral, scars to prove it, always gave as good as he got. I've seen him nose to nose with a fox and he seems to have some understanding with the other carnivores here at the urban interface. Tough cat is what I'm saying.

He's spending more time inside these days. Under the bed or one of his other secret hiding places. In the mornings, he'll come up on the bed, see if we are still alive, and detecting breath in both of us, will retire to the foot of the bed, waiting inscrutably for food. Which I am rationing and he knows it.

I like the cat. But if he weighed as much as I do I think our relationship would be different.

Cool video, led me to spend an hour viewing related cat videos. Damn they're addictive.

I was surprised to see an illustration of a cat's brain: It's about the size of an almond. Yet, while the video showed cats often being stupid, it also showed examples of cats reasoning and otherwise punching well above their brain size.

Imagine if humans got as much mileage out of our distended brains as cats get from their tiny little brains.
