When the Armored Cruiser USS Maine blew up in Havana Harbor in 1898, the Americans blamed it on the Spaniards, as an attempt by Spain to discourage the USA from interfering in their colonial oppression in Cuba.

The Spaniards blamed the explosion on the Cuban insurgents who were allegedly trying to drag the USA into their war of independence. The Cubans have always believed it was the USA that sacrificed the ship so they would have an excuse to enter the conflict.

We still don't know who blew Maine up, but the best guess is that it was a coal dust explosion in the ship's fuel bunkers, a common problem in steamships of that era.

We simply don't know, do we? But without a lot more documentation, it is still a conspiracy theory, isn't it? Saying the virus escaped from a legit lab doing legit research isn't quite as vicious as saying its a Chicom bioweapon that got loose--or was even deliberately released. It could also have been a bioweapons defense drill, remember when the good old USA tested its BW delivery systems by turning loose mild influenza strains in the New York subways so they could track its spread using hospital admissions? But it still accomplishes the same purpose, it blames the Chinese and is a propaganda victory against them, and/or it distracts us from our own incompetence in dealing with the pandemic.

It won't be the first time the Paranoid Press got a hold of one of these incidents. The Spanish Influenza a century ago was blamed on Kaiser Bill, AIDS was attributed to the Apartheid government of South Africa, and the Swine Flu was first detected in humans amongst basic trainees at a US military facility, shortly after an attack of Swine Influenza wiped out the Cuban pork industry.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the Chinese are necessarily innocent, or even cavalier about their research protocols. I wouldn't put anything past these guys. They have, after all, rounded up Uighurs into re-education gulags by the millions, haven't they? What I am saying is it may be a long time before we ever find out whatever happened there with this bug. Maybe never.

At any rate, Deep State and MSM Liberal Media notwithstanding, I still tend to trust WAPO more than I do InfoWars, FOX News--or my own President.

Remember, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean some people aren't really out to get you.
