But either he, or his advisers, are usually cunning enough to smooth the jagged edges of his rhetoric for the public. Mr Buchanan, on the other hand, gives us an unfiltered glimpse into the Conservative psyche. Its significant that the Republican concern for the unborn does not extend to those who have obviously outlived their economic potential. After all, babies can be counted on to grow up as consumers, employees...and soldiers. And some of them are more worth saving than some people, too. Especially those takers and looters who are too weak and old to work.

Buchanan has always distilled precisely the voice of the political Right, but he was one of the very few who was never compelled to conceal or disguise it in public. That essay definitely tells us who he, and his fellow Conservatives, truly are.
