Except my message, unlike yours above, didn't give me a date.

And it was neither "simple" nor "quick". It took a dozen tries, the system kept crashing, or didn't work at all, and it was spread out over several days. Fortunately, I'm retired, I had plenty of free time on my hands.

Not that it matters. I don't really need the money (its going straight into savings whenever I do get it), and I know I'll get it eventually. But what about the guy who lives paycheck to paycheck, who has a rent bill and a pick-up truck note to sweat, and a hungry baby screaming in his trailer? How much relief is he going to get for his $2400 + $500 per dependent? About 72 hours worth? Obamacare cost a lot less than the stimulus, and a lot more people would have benefited for a lot longer.

Besides, writing random checks to people is not the way to deal with this kind of crisis. Its just a way to get the redhats to vote for you in November.

I did, for both my wife and I, and I spent all day getting the royal run-around at IRS.Gov/coronavirus trying to log in, in between system crashes and a totally unforgiving, nit-picking interface that only echoed what I typed in with little black dots; supposedly for reasons of "security". I wanted to speed things up because the IRS has never direct-deposited anything to me (I either paid by personal check or got my refund by US Mail).

And of course, when I didn't get it right after 3 tries, it locked me out for 24 hours. And now that I'm finally logged in and registered, (I hope!) all I get is a message that tells me, essentially, "The check is in the mail". It doesn't say when I can expect to see it in the mailbox, or appear direct deposited in my account, or even if I entered all my info correctly. There is no "tracking".

Hell, I could have told them that last week. Except now I get to have nightmares about whether I entered everything right, of if someone else across town is getting my dough instead of me.

Its the sign-up for Obamacare web page fiasco all over again.

Oh, and BTW, if you filed for the IRS jointly, you'll have to do the process once for yourself and once for your spouse. They tell you in the website you don't have to, but my bank customer service dude told me they lie.
