Lemme know when you're ready to buy, and I can make some recommendations. Amazon has a large selection of these really cheap MiniPCs, typically < $200. They're underpowered compared to a desktop, but from what you've written over the years, they're enough to let you browse the web, check your email, and even watch a few videos. Speaking of video, if there's one place you could spend extra, it'd be to get a 4K monitor, which is supported by almost all the little PCs. Maybe not right now, because there's a world wide shortage of flat panel displays, most of them coming from China. But that should clear soon. Before the shortage there were some down in the $200 range.

I hate to sound like a Microsoft fan boy, but in all honesty I have to say that Windows 10 has grown up, into something that's actually easy to use and pretty reliable. I was talking to my sister the other day about how she's clinging to Windows 7 because she doesn't want to learn a different interface, but I tried to explain to her that the improvements definitely outweigh the learning curve. The thing rarely gets a blue screen of death anymore, and it can repair itself after a lot of crashes. Stronger security, too, with a built-in virus checker that's just about destroyed the third-party antivirus market. You won't regret upgrading, I promise.

No, I'm sure the problem is with my unsupported OS. I was on the verge of buying a new machine but its going to have to wait until the virus goes away.

I just like to bitch. I hate having to buy hardware and learn software just so Microsoft can figure out new ways to sell me shit. Progress is fine, but it should be backwards compatible.

Sounds like JavaScript. Posts on the recent sidebar are different, in that they launch a new standalone page, rather than using JS to request post text and display it. Also, sounds like you're talking about root posts; what about replies?

You've described your setup as, uh, how shall I say it, vintage? Any change on that front? Just a fact of life that it becomes harder and harder to support older computers and software as time goes on. Do you have a smartphone you can try for comparison?

Nothing's changed on the Zone in a long time (sad to say). If others report no change, logically I have to point the accusatory finger at your computer, software, or both. Even if you believe nothing's changed, the success of the many outweighs the problems of the few, in the realm of diagnosis.

Please fill me on your present setup, and maybe we can go from there. If your computer will support, it may be a different web browser will bring relief.
