No, this is all on Trump, as RL has pointed out. He simply couldn’t bring himself to admit to his followers that he was wrong. Its now mostly on his followers (who by now all know perfectly well how wrong he was) but had too much invested in his economic and political ideology to risk losing it all in the next election.

Thousands of Americans will die so this pompous blowhard can make himself look good and so his drooling trailer trash followers can “stick it to the Libs”.

The point of the ‘lockdown’ was to get the infection rate under control so that hospitals were not overwhelmed by a massive surge. Buying us time to secure or build a supply of PPE and ventilators- to get a testing program in place.

Trump had to be dragged kicking and screaming to admitting a lockdown was needed, and so we started it far too late- and throughout it all he has done all he can to sabotage it. Instead of using the time to build up supplies of PPE, they used the time to fuck up the supply chain even more in order to line their own pockets. Testing was totally ignored and rejected as being too hard- we are still only testing the sick.

Now Trump has decided the best hope for his re-election is to end the lockdown… he imagines the economy will return to normal… of course what will really happen is that the infection rate will skyrocket, the economy will still be crippled, and the medical system will be overwhelmed. We will likely be approaching 3000 deaths a day in a month.

The vast majority of this death and economic destruction could have been avoided if this administration took this seriously and listened to the science.

The GOP has long been at war with science, and they are just fine if hundreds of thousands of americans die in the crossfire.
