If a fiendish plan were carefully drafted by a malevolent panel of experts to inflict as much loss of life and economic devastation as possible on the Unites States, it is hard to see how they could come up with anything more effective than this Administration’s choices in response to the pandemic.

Early testing could have let us avoid all this, but instead they ignored and punished the scientists, and denied there was a problem…
As a result the infection spread wide and killed 10′s of thousands of Americans and we had no choice but to lockdown…
We could have used the pause of the lockdown to build up PPE, and implement widespread testing… instead it was a chaotic free-for-all which had states left on their own forced to bid against eachother for lifesaving supplies.

After months of lockdown we still are nowhere near the testing rates we need, no coherent national policy has been set, what common sense suggestions come out of Washington are immediately undermined by the president. When none of the states meet the vague guidelines announced by this administration, we are ‘re-opening the economy’ at the urging of the president.

As a result the death toll will at least double by August.

We will likely have scientists warning that the infection rate has grown to a point that we must do another lockdown- the administration will refuse- until, in Mid-October, they will declare a mandatory lockdown… while patting themselves on the back for taking such quick decisive action in the interests of public health. We will again be bombarded with images of temporary morgues in ice-skating rinks and overwhelmed doctors and nurses.

In late October they will assess if the lockdown is likely to suppress the vote enough to ensure another Trump victory – if they don’t feel their chances of winning are great enough, they will regretfully announce that they cannot allow the election to take place… it poses too much of a threat to public safety. It would be unconstitutional, of course, and would be challenged (if the supreme court is given a chance to weigh in, they would strike down the delay of the election- unless Trump gets another supreme court seat)- but the chaos it all would cause would drive voter turnout even lower- to their benefit- and if they still lose they will point to the chaos they created and claim it invalidates the results.
And they have the nutcases with guns they have been stroking for years as a backup option.
Perhaps there is a madness to their method, after all…

Hanlon’s razor is an aphorism that states: “Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence”

But, in the case of fascists, it can be- and usually is- malicious incompetence. They create chaos intentionally because they position themselves to be in the best position to exploit it.

And so the President will continue to sabotage the response to the pandemic, he will become more outrageous. He will continue to encourage the far right armed nutcases storming local governments with guns, he will continue to subvert the DOJ to attack his enemies and reward his friends, he will confer legitimacy on one crackpot conspiracy theory after another until his supporters are further detached from reality and scared… and when November rolls around it will likely be bloody- on top of the hundreds of thousands that will already be dead by then from the Pandemic.

Sadly, I am not the only one giving out spoilers:

By law, the general election must take place on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, and the president ― let alone a single staffer ― does not have sole authority to change that. It would require an act of Congress.

But Kushner raised eyebrows with his comments in a video interview released Tuesday about the economic crisis wrought by the coronavirus in America.

When a Time magazine reporter asked whether the election could be postponed past Nov. 3, Kushner replied: “It’s not my decision to make, and I’m not sure I can commit one way or the other, but right now that’s the plan.”
