Applebaum's Atlantic article provides us with a useful model for the Republican Party's shameless and cowardly capitulation to Trump. It is essentially an exercise in collaboration with an invader, how the local bureaucracy and legislature joins and cooperates with the enemy occupation forces, always for a variety of lofty rationalizations and justifications, but basically to protect their own privilege.

She was interviewed on NPR today, hopefully there is a transcript or recording of the interview out there. We should make it a point to read and listen to her, while its still possible.

We can no longer count on the bureaucracy, Congress, the courts or local government to get us out of this mess. If we don't do it at the polls in November, American constitutional democracy is finished.

Yep. We're in deep shit.
