Its just that most cities don't want to spend their resources and their money rounding up, processing and detaining illegals simply because the Federal authorities don't have the people to find them, arrest them or the facilities to lock them up. If a local illegal gets busted for drunk driving or beating up his wife he gets processed in the system exactly the same way as if he were a citizen. It is not the job of the local courts and jails to round up people who break Federal laws or turn them over to the immigration authorities, and certainly not to hold them until ICE finds the time to come pick them up.

If ICE wants to arrest somebody in my town, nobody here is going to stop them (I live in SE Florida). But the local authorities have better things to do with their law enforcement dollars, personnel and facilities than help Donald Trump score points with his knuckle dragging Deplorables.

"Sanctuary cities" is just another Trump lie, designed to inflame the redneck vote and racist Right and turn them against the more liberal governments and voters in the cities. What ICE really wants is for the cities to drop everything else they're doing and rush to help the immigration authorities do their dirty work. When they refuse, they call them "sanctuary cities", as if they were harboring serial rapists and axe murderers.

If the GOP was really serious about illegal immigration they would just start enforcing the laws about hiring undocumented workers by fining and jailing some of the Republican fat-cat businessmen who are harvesting all that foreign cheap labor. That's why the illegals are here, because Republicans are getting rich by hiring them. Can't you see? These people are here because OUR BOSS invited them here.

But nooooooooo....When THAT bill was introduced in Congress, the GOP shut it down tout de suite.

What I was saying was that the GOP here in america and on the zone seems to think no cruelty to undocumented people is too much...

When you have gone down that fascist path this far, you have no problem with the president endorsing the genocide in china..

Also, the detention centers and their conditions, while horrifying, is unfortunately nothing new. Sanctuary cities in California are working double-time to block ICE, but they play dirty.

Judging from the original post, the impression was that Trump offered to have Chairman Xi outsorce his camps to America. THAT would not stand.

A chaotic scene of sickness and filth is unfolding in an overcrowded border station in Clint, Tex., where hundreds of young people who have recently crossed the border are being held, according to lawyers who visited the facility this week. Some of the children have been there for nearly a month.

Children as young as 7 and 8, many of them wearing clothes caked with snot and tears, are caring for infants they’ve just met, the lawyers said. Toddlers without diapers are relieving themselves in their pants. Teenage mothers are wearing clothes stained with breast milk.

Most of the young detainees have not been able to shower or wash their clothes since they arrived at the facility, those who visited said. They have no access to toothbrushes, toothpaste or soap.

“There is a stench,” said Elora Mukherjee, director of the Immigrants’ Rights Clinic at Columbia Law School, one of the lawyers who visited the facility. “The overwhelming majority of children have not bathed since they crossed the border.”

"This is a life or death situation," said a translation of their message, dated May 18, and sent to the Florence Immigrants & Refugees Rights Project, a legal advocacy group that has filed a lawsuit on behalf of migrants in the facility.

The migrants appealed for help to the advocacy group from inside one of 24 “tanks” in the La Palma Correctional Center outside of Phoenix, which is operated for ICE by the for-profit company CoreCivic. Most of the 'tanks' hold 120 individuals each, although six hold only 60. CoreCivic told NBC News that no unit currently holds more than 100 detainees.

...
Two migrants described being asked to clean the trash from the nurses' office, where sick patients were treated. One said he was asked to clean the feces-covered cell of a mentally ill detainee without gloves.

Other allegations include guards not wearing adequate equipment to prevent infection as they passed from one cell to another and "no measures for social distancing" while immigrants lined up for food.

Republicans will be fine with this, given that they have supported concentration camps being built right here in the United States.

From Bolton's book:

At the opening dinner of the Osaka G-20 meeting in June 2019, with only interpreters present, Xi had explained to Trump why he was basically building concentration camps in Xinjiang. According to our interpreter, Trump said that Xi should go ahead with building the camps, which Trump thought was exactly the right thing to do. The National Security Council’s top Asia staffer, Matthew Pottinger, told me that Trump said something very similar during his November 2017 trip to China.

Neither am I surprised that Bolton didn't mention any of this to the impeachment committees, but waited until he was ready to plug his book.

But that shouldn't surprise us either. After all, he is a Republican.

All these people are low-life scum.
