Fascism appeals to the Archie Bunkers of this world. He may have been only an exaggerated comic caricature, but the characterization was dead on. Perhaps this explains the popularity of the character by so many of the public. They saw themselves in him. And they loathed everything about Meathead and everything he stood for. Fascists always seem to think themselves morally and intellectually superior to the communities they are convinced are exploiting them. Add race to the mix and everything falls into place. "All in the Family" was great TV, and brutally insightful, but it went right over the heads of most of the audience. Which is what appeals to his followers.
