I can see why bigoted white nationalists like FrankC go along with it- he has no real principles other than to screw over those he considers inferior, and to advocate the opposite of whatever he thinks liberals support... But what about the portion of the GOP that AREN'T aspiring Klansmen like FrankC ? What do they tell themselves to get to sleep at night? Have they convinced themselves the ends justify the means, even if they have only gotten lies and 100's of thousands of dead Americans? What ends justify this carnage? Does Jody pause to ponder- between posting pictures of cats in funny hats- that she has helped assure that her grand-daughters will be put in greater danger by having misogynist fundamentalist rapists in power and on the supreme court? Does she have any trouble meeting their eyes? When she watches the "Handmaid's Tale" on Hulu does she not see the warning that motivated its writing? Does TB feel no regrets being a propagandist for a "man" that exposes the fact that all the GOP claimed to stand for was a lie? What drew most of them here originally was interest in science, yet they support a president that has declared war on science and truth? Does that not cause some troubling cognitive dissonance? Or does it all boil down to the fact that, for all the harm he causes them and their neighbors, Trump's actions hurt those they have contempt for just a bit more? THAT is the conservative's definition of "winning"? Maybe the answer doesn't matter- this is what they have become, or perhaps its what they always were... It is what it is...
