My uncle still doesn’t know for sure about his cabin, but the best info he has now gives him reason for optimism… it looks like it crested the ridge above his cabin but did not descend – hopefully all the damage will just be from frozen water pipes due to loss of power.

Fire is now deep into Rocky Mountain National Park, headed east of strong winds. Headed for the Camron Peak Fire, they may merge. Thankfully the weather is changing in a big way. Single digit temps and a foot of snow are forecast.

Looks like according to the latest maps the fire came 1/2 mile from the cabin, but the expected wind direction tonight puts his cabin in huge peril if it is still there…

It may be days before he knows one way or the other…

Weather is cold and wet east of the divide, a cold front is pushing back against the range. West of the Divide is a whole different weather story. Hope his place is okay. Could take a couple of anxious days to find out.

So maybe his place is okay. Fire is weird that way. Still very sad for that community.

Estes Park was mostly evacuated, but the fire seems to have been halted by upslope weather east of the divide, as per the last briefing. Evacuation orders have been lifted / modified in the hills near us to allow residents back to winterize their homes. Temps drop into the twenty’s tonight with light precipitation.
