Honestly, barring my personal info, I wouldn't mind this happening. Your best bet would be to simply hit up a few college humanities departments online, and see if any grad students want to try their luck.

and similar thoughts have occurred to me. Perhaps somebody studying the (d)evolution of society could do a lexical analysis of the posts over time, to track the increase in polarization and the breakdown of civility.

It might not be a smooth curve--there were early examples that would show up as anomalous blips on a hypothetical curve. Like the "Trench Knife Incident" in the first few months of the Zone's life, foreshadowing the rightwing propensity for violence.

I've procrastinated (of course), perhaps because turning the database over to a scholarly organization would feel tantamount to pronouncing the Zone dead, and ready for its autopsy.

I had grand plans to spruce up the place a year ago, about half realized, and organize it into a chronological "journal" format that would tell a story over time. I think the surgery knocked the wind out of me, because I've been pretty unambitious since then. Maybe you guys could do me a favor and nag at me?

And who should study it? Perhaps several organizations or researchers, to cancel out partisan interpretation (e.g. through cherry-picking examples of one side or the other's bad attitude). I'm open to ideas.

One could- again, purely for the sake of argument- regularly upload posts -and all the identifying information one had about the poster (such as full name, address, phone number, friends and relatives, family tree etc...) to one or more of the various crypto-currency blockchains where it would persist for generations, and be continually backed up with 100's of thousands of copies world wide.

Block chains are riddled with messages, and are already being explored for the secrets users have dumped into the block chain, encoded into hexadecimal.

It would take a little effort and only cost a bunch of bitcoin micro-transactions to do.

One could even upload the message base as encrypted blocks- unreadable until you decide it is time to add the encryption key to the blockchain for some dedicated future archaeologist to find...

I only suggest this as a possibility, one that would be a permanent mark on the record- so to speak. But really, who would do such a thing? It would take someone that felt it was important that the names of certain people be permanently tarnished- that their descendants be made aware of the sins of their fathers... it would take a maniacal sense of purpose... of vengeance. A single minded pursuit of ultimate justice.

Honestly, it would take someone with a lot of technical knowledge, the right amount of fanatical zeal, sophisticated computing power, and a LOT of free-time... perhaps someone working in a highly technical field but forced to spend all their time at home for some reason...

Frankly, I just don't see that happening... do you?
