Even if I did go and get my GED, there is no way an old man like myself could handle the high stakes, high pressure job of ensuring everyone gets their "Moons Over My Hammy" order on time- with the pressure of customer satisfaction and hundreds of dollars on the line... I just have to accept that, without a GED, all those hours I spent memorizing Denny's vast, and reasonably priced, menu of satisfying family friendly offerings were just wasted time. I am too elderly to go back to school and get my GED, and my old eyes are not up to the strain of all that book learnin' I would have to do... I can't even imagine how I could manage to learn that 'new math' they have the kids learning these days! How could I hope to compete with the youngsters in my declining years? No, those days are passed and my dreams must go unfulfilled- I am just going to have to accept that I will never know the thrill and glamour of a Denny's managerial position. Its ok, though- I have managed to make a living despite my lack of formal education... doing menial jobs of one sort or another here and there. Grinding away at it day after day... Do not weep for me, V... just stay in school, work hard and maybe - just maybe- someday you can proudly ask a patron of your fine-dining establishment "Do you want fries with that?"- perhaps you might succeed where I failed. But not I... I can only dream of such a glorious future...
