The ancient Greeks fancied that the crepuscular rays were the fingers of Eos, the goddess of dawn, as she came over the horizon. Growing up in Florida, a place of clear skies, clean horizons and spectacular sunrises and sunsets, I have often marveled at this phenomenon.

Its pretty obvious what causes this, and the Ancients must have known it too, they were great sailors and were at home on the water and in the open. But the inclusion of the goddess in their myth is a testament to the beauty and glory of this phenomenon. I can dig it. Thanks for turning us on to this.
