Were we to experience something of the scale of a Carrington event in today's society, it could be the worst global disaster, in terms of death toll, that humanity has ever experienced to date. It WILL happen eventually- it nearly happened 2012- the question is how well our infrastructure will be prepared for it when it happens.

We get hit with them all the time.

The larger CMEs recorded have effected Space Weather and GPS Systems, Electric Power Transmission (unhardened / vulnerable power grids), HF Radio Communications and Satellite Communications — anything from a basic phone call to the transmission of a Super Bowl game.

Except for a power outage or loss of Game Night, it should be quite survivable…

The excitement for a large CME event is mostly from watchers anticipating a northern or southern aurora event.
