former republican that has left the party in disgust...

<a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/11/03/us/elections/exit-polls-president.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">%94 of Republicans voted for Trump in this past election... </a>
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/11/03/us/elections/exit-polls-president.html

The GOP is the party of Trump- they have abandoned all they claimed to have stood for. Fiscal responsibility, morality, honoring those that served, law and order, revering the constitution, standing with allies- all those things were cast aside without hesitation in their mad dash to chain themselves to Trump.

The republican party is the Trump party- you would have to be a special kind of stupid to think otherwise. Hell, even idiot Matt Gaetz understands that much:
As he said himself <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/rep-matt-gaetz-join-gop-effort-overturn-trump-loss-im-not-going-back-losing-politely-1556245" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">"This is Donald Trump's party, and I am a Donald Trump Republican"</a>
https://www.newsweek.com/rep-matt-gaetz-join-gop-effort-overturn-trump-loss-im-not-going-back-losing-politely-1556245

Trump owns the GOP party leadership and the vast majority of the people that call themselves republican will support Trump no matter what atrocities he commits... as we saw from the results of the last election.

The GOP has plummeted into dangerous madness- they have abandoned reason and principles and embraced bigotry and conspiracy theory.

Their leader is trying to instigate violence here in DC on the 6th as a last gasp attempt to subvert democracy- and the republicans are fine with that- the only question is how many will have the balls to follow his orders.

They are the party of white supremacists, happy to engage in treason if it will gain them power.

Power- unchallenged and complete- is their ONLY agenda, and they have thrown away EVERYTHING in pursuit of that power. They have nothing left to lose, and that makes them all the more dangerous.

The republicans in our nation looked at the corruption, the 100's of thousands of deaths, the undermining of our democracy, the blatant racism... they saw all that and overwhelmingly decided that 'liberal tears' were worth it.

Today we will lose around another 3000 Americans, Trump is still trying to find ways of destroying our democracy, and republicans are trying to handicap the next administration's ability to deal with the crisis they created.

The vast majority of republicans are fine with all that.

You can't fight fear with fear. Fear is unsustainable.

I'll get into this more, come the new year. Right now it's Christmas, and I just want to have some peace on Earth, and goodwill towards Men.

I will say this, however: statistically speaking, a sample of 916 nationally registered voters, 28% (roughly 257) of which were Republicans, out of the 280,000,000+ registered voters in the United States of America, <em>is not a good sample size</em> - especially when looking for data indicative of trends in larger groups as a whole.

Stay safe, y'all

...who were always piously lecturing us about "freedom", who constantly were sanctimoniously preaching about "liberty", about the Federalist Papers and Founding Fucking Fathers and "free enterprise".

These are the people who don't care about anything except that their taxes are low, their businesses are free from regulation, and that they never have to pay a penny to feed or clothe or house or educate or heal any of their countrymen who can't afford it. And when they're caught red handed making excuses and covering up for their crimes, they suddenly come around all peace and light, talking compromise and tolerance and fair play.

You're right, RL, these people really need to be exposed for the low-life trailer trash they really are.
And we should be thankful for the last four years for finally demonstrating, for unequivocally showing, just what these people are willing to do to get their way.

The Trump years proved beyond any doubt what they are, and who they are. America may have paid a high price for that lesson, but if we learned it well, it will have been worth every penny. Germany paid a much higher price for that lesson, lets hope we can learn from them and avoid the full vengeance of history.

They just believe they have the divine right to steal it for themselves. They are furious that even with all the cheating they did- the voter suppression, the sabotaging of mail in voting, the gerrymandering that ensures them a built-in advantage- it still wasn't enough.

The fact that the election was decided in large part by black voters ENRAGES and TERRIFIES them- and in their eyes makes the results invalid.

Sure, if asked, they will say that they believe african-americans have the right to vote- but they do all they can to suppress their vote, and as we have seen- if that fails they will have no qualms about attempting to nullify their votes.

Sometimes they slip up and say what they are really thinking, like Lindsey Graham:
<blockquote>“If you’re a young, African American or an immigrant, you can go anywhere in this state, you just need to be conservative, not liberal.”</blockquote>

In the conservative mind, people of color are free to vote just as long as they vote the way those that are oppressing and killing them tell them to.

I have ranted and railed against the conservative progression to fascism for decades... some of my rants can be found in the archives of this board.

In 2007 I remember being stunned that I had to explain to the conservatives on this board that state sanctioned torture of prisoners of war is evil and immoral... I actually had to explain to Americans- that claimed to value law and order, and morality- that systematic waterboarding and other forms of torture have no place in our society.

The conservatives have been radicalized, they have been indoctrinated to believe anything less than complete conservative domination of all the branches of government is illegitimate. That the only way they can win is if the other side loses everything and is suffering (Hence their constant celebration of 'liberal tears').

The conservative movement has become inherently fascist, and it isn't because of some quirk of history and human nature- this is the outcome of decades of work towards this end- hundreds of billions of dollars have gone into creating this result. It was a planned effort to create a massive base of militant 'true-believers' who would disregard the facts in front of them and adhere to whatever party line their masters fed them.

I have no idea how we can repair the grave damage these traitors have done... but I do know that adopting a 'forgive and forget' attitude is one sure way to ensure it gets worse.

These treasonous buffoons need to pay a high price- they need to become social lepers, pariahs- they need to life their lives ridiculed and reviled. They should be exposed and their businesses boycotted (more on this later).

I find it difficult to believe that all these Congressmen (and the 18 Republican State officials who also signed on to the Texas Supreme Court lawsuit to overthrow the election) actually believe the election was stolen by the Democrats. No, they are acting like this because they didn't like the way it turned out and they are willing to try anything to get back into power.

Oh, you can say that they are doing this to stay on Trump's good side, or they are just trying to kiss the base's ass, or are trying to maintain their GOP bona fides.

But the truth is that they (along with most of the Republican voters), believe in their Party's goals and agenda more than they believe in democracy. Either that, or they believe their party's goals and agenda IS democracy. Either way, we're fucked.
