The infection rate is low, lower still if you can afford to take a few precautions and if your lifestyle gives more opportunities to avoid infection in the first place. And access to higher quality medical care gives you more chances of survival even if you have the misfortune of a particularly bad exposure or reaction.

OTOH, profits are extremely sensitive to the general health of the whole economy. Keeping the economy robust trumps keeping the population healthy.

I’m sure that there are agencies and algorithms dedicated to calculating the risk/benefit ratio and implementing it in such a way it remains optimized.
