I spent all day on TV and radio hearing about it, the witnesses and victims who lived through it and survived it.

We must never forget what happened in Nazi Germany, even though it happened before we were born. And we must never forget those who did it, or who even today are making excuses for them or denying it, or dismissing it as ancient history that doesn’t really matter any more. This must never happen again, and we must never forget. Ever. Never again. Oh, sure. This was not history’s first genocide, and I doubt it will be its last, but this is the one that was carried out by an industrial state with full ideological justification and with all the techniques of modern science and engineering and management.

Those few who survived the horror are now dying of old age, soon there will be no one left to bear witness. But we must never forget, because those who carried out the Holocaust are still being replaced, every day, under other names, using new excuses, under new ideologies, under new flags, new uniforms, new slogans, new symbols. There is always a reason to hate.

Today is the day to remember, that horror is still with us and if we forget it will be back. Again and again.

There are NOT “nice people on both sides”.
