Getting the shot day before yesterday went fine, yesterday morning I was stiff and sore, then 24 hours after the shot it hit like a ton of bricks... serious muscle and joint aches... like I had a bad flu. This morning I am still a little sore, but feel much better...

Totally worth it and now planning long trips for work and vacation...

I guess we will see what happens with all the variants that will be coming from India or from all the anti-vaxxers...

But then I wasn't trying to fly anyway, so no loss.

For me the pandemic, coming right after major surgery, has been a mixed blessing for my health. It constrained my ability to get exercise, while honing my cooking skills to create healthy food that also tastes really great--to me--and created a feedback loop that caused me to gain 20 pounds. Too much of even healthy food is a bad thing. Doesn't sound like much, but with a weak heart I noticed it, and it reduced my ability to get exercise, further screwing up my homeostasis and causing me to gain more weight.

But then I got shot, and the improvement in my attitude was just enough to tip the balance. Forced myself back up to three miles a day walking, and in a couple of months I've lost 18/20 of the excess. I feel better now.

I guess things must be getting better if I can use the term "mixed blessing" talking about the pandemic. I'm sure there's a diamond in that pile of manure, somewhere.

Not the needle, but the injection process hurt some for me, my wife didn't notice it at all.... no bad side effects except after the shot, that afternoon I needed a nap- but I had been working unusually late the night before... my wife had minor swelling of her arm at the injection site - barely visible.

Its funny, but this pandemic has been great for my health... I haven't been in this good a shape since college. Lost weight and been working out a bit. Not having the cafeteria at work to go to has been good for me, I am eating healthier.

Congrats. It will be a load off your mind, I promise.

I continue to be impressed by how the vaccination rate is exceeding expectations. But maybe we can thank Trump...for lowering expectations into a deep, dark pit.

Or maybe you're benefiting from lower demand from the antivaxxers and other Darwin Award contenders. (I know, disease isn't that simple--antivaxxers don't just remove themselves from the gene pool.)

In any case, don't party on, dude!

We were expecting a drawn out frustrating search for appointments when we became eligible ... instead the doctor sent an email saying it was available and we called and got an appointment for Wednesday... it will be the Moderna vaccine...

I feel even more relieved than I had anticipated.....

They are acutely sensitive to their humans' moods and emotions. But they work with what they have. I made friends with the neighbor's emotional support pomegranate--Pomeranian--after I started wearing a mask, so that's all he's known, and we've bonded well enough. But the other day he seemed down, and I thought it was a Tommy-fell-down-the-well moment, but when on impulse I took off the mask, he perked right up and started slobbering on my face. Which I tolerated, just this once, though such behavior must never become a habit. But he seemed to respond well to seeing the entire canvas of my face for the first time.

All but the millenials in my family have been shot. Only one family member was infected, and he got through it handily, so we count ourselves fortunate.

I'm still unsure when to travel again. I need to get out to Florida to visit the family, and while it'll be safe around them, indoors, the surrounding countryside is a hotbed of diseased Trumpist psychopaths. The thought of a five hour plane flight stuck in a cramped tube breathing the virus clouds of a hundred others...well, that fills me with something akin to terror crossed with nausea, too. Maybe May. Not much later, though, or the second sun will have risen, and air temps will be in the molten lead range.

Come to think of it, it's not just my neighbor's dog who's never seen my face, neither has my neighbor. We've been doing this a looong time.

She takes a lot of cues from our expressions and when we cover our faces she gets a little uncertain... that said, its no excuse for going maskless in public.

The big problem we have is %50 of republican males say they won't get vaccinated... I am not so much worried about their health, but the health of those they will infect...

My mother just got her second shot, so she is safe- my family had no casualties to the pandemic- many of my co-workers were not so lucky.

I really hope to visit a vendor building some equipment for us to witness the factory acceptance testing in a couple of months- not sure I will do that if I haven't had at least 1 shot... the vendor is a 9 hour drive away.
