Replying to myself, never mind.

As this is touching on politics, in the UK and NZ today is Guy fawke’s night. An interesting tale which ends well or not depending on your point of view.

Thank you both. I don’t have much to add but this is very interesting.

I wonder if we will ever see the same regrets in the UK with regard to Brexit, I think it’s unlikely to be honest as despite all the upheaval and impact in society caused by the Conservative government’s mishandling of covid they have still been re-elected. Seemingly they can do no wrong, either that or it’s a case of ‘I’m alright jack’ with most of the UK electorate. It’s been getting more and more like that in the last five years.

...who are starting to see how they've been misled and conned by the new American Fascism.

They remind me a lot of the principled and compassionate liberals who actually traveled to the USSR and to Cuba and saw that Socialism, too, can go terribly, terribly wrong.

Unfortunately, most of us, regardless of our political persuasions, would rather just insist on error than admit we were wrong. And no one likes to admit they were fooled. Human nature, I guess.

But at least I think they've learned something; now that they've unleashed the beast, they're NOT "going to be able to control it".
