We just watched Disney's "Moana". December 1, 2021 9:23 pm ER

Highly recommended. Watch the “special features” section, too. As much thought and effort went into this as Peter Jackson put into the Rings trilogy.
Not only is the animation spectacular, but a real effort was made to get South Sea Islanders and scholars involved so that the story, island life and music was culturally authentic.

No, its not a documentary, its a kid’s movie musical with all the usual Disney cliches. But it works, and the sailing sequences are technically correct and really exciting. Now I know how those double-ended, asymmetrical-hulled, one-ama-to-windward canoes actually were tacked into the wind.
