Even if NASA wanted to they wouldn't be able to keep the bad news secret- if a serious problem arises they might be closed lipped while they evaluate it so they can see how serious it really is and determine potential solutions- but they wouldn't (and COULDN'T) 'Cover it up'...

NASA is making a massive gamble with this mission, and doing so knowing the world media will pounce viciously if they lose... but the payoff if they win? Well, that is beyond measure.

I am not an astronomer, but I grew up with a love of astronomy (My parents decorated our home with framed pictures of nebulae and galaxies)... I want this to be a complete success more than I can express. If it fails it won't be for lack of effort... people have spent the past 30 years devoting their lives to it, and the scientists and engineers that will be there to troubleshoot if something does go wrong are unquestionably the best our planet has to offer.

They decided to take a day off after extending the booms.I get it, it was New Years after all. Now they're putting off tensioning the sun shield for another day, saying they want kick back an see how the power supply is behaving.
