You did the drive in two stages? I'm impressed. That's a lot of miles.

We sleep with a humidifier in the room. It's essential. Even though outside there might be some humidity, inside is like being in a dehydrator.

Hope you mother is well, and safer now.

But I had ZERO difficulties, not even a single traffic jam.
On my return trip I left Denver ~10:30 am Saturday spent one night at a hotel near St. Louis and got back to Maryland ~1am Monday morning (Feb 28th). I finished a Stephen King audio book and started the Baroque Cycle... For obvious reasons I spent a lot of my time listening to various news channels on Sirius Radio instead of listening to books as I had planned.

The cold snap was brutal, but I had lots of appropriate clothing. I spent the week there working to improve the safety of my mother's apartment...

Something about Denver - probably the dry air- really made it difficult to sleep more than a few hours at night... I was exhausted by the end of it.

a verse translation by Robert Fagles, read by Sir Ian McKellan. It was originally composed to be sung aloud so it should be very adaptable to an automotive presentation.

There is also a companion print edition in case you choose to read the text later. I read AND listened simultaneously and it was really a unique experience. Parallel processing by both brain hemispheres, it was like, bicameral, Dude.

Homer and the Bible are our only surviving documents from Western Man's Bronze Age. Although the latter's Elizabethan English can be beautiful to listen to, it sounds repetitive and stilted to modern ears.

11 discs.

70 or 80.

Be aware that I-70 between Kansas City and Topeka is a toll road. Bring a roll of quarters.

Though I have the Hitchhiker's Guide practically memorized.

Yes, travelling solo... will have lots of winter gear just in case - but not expecting any real problems...

24 hour drive time- of course it will be longer...

I-70 pretty much all the way.
