Student loans conditional upon grades February 23, 2022 8:41 am Pebble

The government are considering a restriction on student loans. First some background.

At 16 students take school leaver exams and are expected to get grade 4 English and Maths from a scale of 1 (low) to 9 (high). They then do university entrance exams and top universities want grades A*, A or B.

The proposal now is that prospective university students can’t get a student loan if they don’t get at least two E grades at university entrance and school leaver exams in English and Maths. The rule wouldn’t apply to mature student over 21.

Any thoughts ? No English and maths GCSE, no university student loan, plans say https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-60491719
