If this was about protecting babies they would do something about that first… but if you propose any programs to improve the circumstances of mothers in poverty they will scream that its socialism/communism and vote against it.

Taking Native Americans (and First Nations in Canada) away from their families to horrible boarding schools.

And the same argument is still being made to justify slavery in America. That Blacks were brought here and were better off than they were before.

I was required to attend mass, jump through all the hoops, etc., until I turned 18. But I was given the “Golden Book of World Religions” when I was a child and I read it cover to cover. Read Ram Dass and learned meditation in middle school. Eventually adopted a sort of scientific Taoism.

People can venerate a cactus for all I care, just Do Not Impose It On Me.

They were also taught other religions, sometimes they confused them so we had the five pillars of Hinduism for example. Then again they were brought up with a mix of Christian and Pagan celebrations as I’m interested in both religions. They’ve both rejected religion and one describes themselves as a humanist who rejects all organised religions and would have preferred not to have been baptised. The other is, as far as I know, an atheist. And that’s all fine, they had the introduction, used critical thought and made their own decisions. That’s exactly what I hoped for.

A few years ago now somebody I knew at a distance online adopted three children from Ukraine. I had to hide their posts as they were full of this kind of stuff about how they were saving them from a backward culture and bringing them to the great and good America. Total lack of respect.
