I’m not surprised that you both liked it there, we are rather pleased with our West Island. So nice of them to take all the violent animals and leave us without any !

The South Island is the best of course.

Saw it mentioned online that the US was settled by religious outcasts and Australia by criminals. And the Aussies are wonderful, kind, fun loving people. Go figure.

Glad your paperwork came through and you were able to go down under. If you do get the chance to go back, add New Zealand to your itinerary. And Tasmania.

SKY NEWS, seems to be focused on contempt content when it comes to anything involving aboriginal Australians and climate issues...

Given the Murdoch involvement in sky news, I guess it's not surprising...

It still sounds ignorant even with a delightful accent.

The tour of the site was just a considerate gesture by the Australians, I have no involvement with the astounding work that goes on there. They also received the now famous images from the JWST, I got a picture of their downlink schedule that shows the JWST in the queue.

I have to say, as arduous as this trip has been, I have greatly enjoyed it... Every single Australian I have met has been pleasant, not just the ones I have business with, but everyone I have met. Not a single unpleasant interaction. This was my first international travel in 22 years, and it was difficult, but none of the difficulty was due to the Australians... Perhaps there will be some unpleasantness when I return the rental car tomorrow with the passenger side mirror smashed, but I doubt it.

Turns out that RL is a bit too far to the left... At least when driving in Australia. And so, for the first time in my life, I am returning a damaged car. No other vehicle was involved, just a road construction warning pylon on Mount Stromlo. It was unblemished by my error. The only real damage is to the side mirror and my pride.

Australia, and the people I have met here, are wonderful I hope to return many more times for work and hopefully for vacation when I will have time to truly enjoy the place. This trip I mainly was here going to various meetings, I really wish I had more time to enjoy the sights.

Oh, I got really close to kangaroos as well, I will post some shots of them when I can... They apparently fill the ecological niche that deer do in the US, but are less nervous around humans.

No koalas were seen on this trip, sadly...

On the COVID front... I really was worried about doing this trip given the COVID situation in Australia this time of year... I fly back home tomorrow. I took a COVID test tonight and it was negative... but I plan to isolate a while after my return to be safe.

As far as I know I have not been infected by COVID, and I would like to keep it that way, but it's probably just a matter of time before I get it...
