Without proof, I don't think we will ever really know. But I have always leaded towards the natural cause. Were they doing some dangerous experiments in that lab? Apparently so. Was there a leak? Possible. Was it on purpose? Also possible.

But there was a much bigger laboratory operating; the wild animal farms, trade, and markets. Absolutely the perfect setup for the evolution of a virus like this.

Recall this: https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2021/03/15/977527808/who-points-to-wildlife-farms-in-southwest-china-as-likely-source-of-pandemic

China encouraged this activity of raising wild animals for consumption. Then, shut it down quick when things got weird. All that evidence is gone. Did they take samples from those farms? I doubt it. Even if they did, we'll never see it.

I exercise caution with pre-print, pre peer review publications. But this tips the scales a bit into the natural cause hypothesis.

But it will not convince those already convinced. Nothing will. You could produce a sample from a bat in a cave that has COVID19, and they'll say it caught it from humans.

After working in an old mine with bats and nasty stuff growing on old timbers, I developed a mild case of Bell's Palsy. It went away on its own. Bats are incubators of nasty stuff.
