The real reason we invaded Iraq was because Dick Cheney managed to convince the Bush Baby that there was an Islamic plot to take over World Civilization and the best way to defeat that religious conspiracy was to take out the strongest military power in the Muslim World, (one that also happened to border every Muslim nation there) and install an American puppet regime and US military bases in the heart of the region.

The Iraqi Weapons of Mass Destruction never existed, so they had to be invented. Because of the Iraq war, the extermination of the Taliban (where we indeed had a moral justification) had to be postponed, and eventually abandoned. The rest, as the cliche reminds us, is History.
