Has never jumped on a counter. Scratches one old piece of furniture. Will come into my office, utter a single meow that says "Food, please, from the can," And then just sits and waits.

Good cat. But very old. We had a home call from a vet who said cats understand us better than we understand them. So true.

Her good behavior is not our doing- she seems to innately know what is ok. She can watch me throw the remains of BBQ ribs in the trash, with a heartbroken expression in her eyes, but it would never occur to her to simply lean over and retrieve them from the trash- we never had to teach her that, she just knows. She is never destructive, unless it is one of her toys... with our stuff she shows exaggerated care. Even as a puppy her most destructive behavior was to somehow find the labels on towels and blankets and chew them off.

Her food and favorite treats are kept on a shelf within reach- she knows its there, and will gesture to it with her nose when she wants one, but never once has she attempted to get it herself- we never scolded her to teach her that, she just knows it would not be proper. She has a big personality, and isn't meek... and she is the smartest dog I have had (huge vocabulary), and if she wanted to, she could make a lot of trouble for us... but she can't seem to even conceive of causing trouble.

She travels well, we will be driving to colorado in less than 2 weeks with her- its easy to forget she is in the car... she lets us know when she needs to get out, and is THRILLED with any new place- doesn't matter if its a national park or a truck stop... its always the most exciting thing in the world to her.

I have never had a dog so attuned to people, so able to understand what we want and able to so clearly communicate what she wants to us. And she absolutely has a sense of humor - she is a big fan of slapstick humor, she doesn't seem to get puns... yet. If she finds it especially amusing she will give a very unladylike snorting laugh. We were very lucky to have gotten her.

An odd mix of breeds- the accidental result of a purebred Flatcoat retriever being left alone with a randy purebred Miniature American Eskimo too long... If you somehow stumble across that combination get it- all the dogs from that litter were great (we stayed in touch with many of the other folks that adopted her siblings).

She always turns to her right, when I try to get her to circle to the left she will do it, CLUMSILY, but will protest loudly that it is unnatural and just WRONG!

She will circle to the left, but will often follow it up by circling to the right immediately afterwards as if to undo the wrongness of a left circle.

…because it is their natural preference. Actually sheep dogs know two different whistle commands and will get the sheep going counter clockwise or clockwise as needed.

Come away tells a dog I want the sheep going counter clockwise in the UK, in NZ it’s Come Bye.
