That snowstorm really complicated plans, and that bitter cold as well. I've shoveled 4 feet of snow so far this season. Keeps me in shape. And that storm was unusual for this time of year - very water rich - and heavy. It's still on the ground and side streets are now glaciers.

You think rents are bad in Denver? Boulder is insane, especially after 1000+ families lost their homes in the fire.

Still adjusting to a catless home, which added an emotional tenor to the season.

Moving your parents is a difficult task, I know. You (and your wife) have my respect.

Hope the "Anomalist Eating Yeti" is feeling better. I miss him around here.

But we were totally overwhelmed...
I drove well over 4000 miles on my 'vacation'... on the way down there I found out that the movers that had been hired by my brother to pack up my mother's things and transport it to her new place had showed up to my mother's place, looked around and said 'we just need to get some stuff from the truck' and left.... an hour later when they didn't return my mother called the office and was told 'Oh, we don't pack things up', even though they had been hired because they said they did do packing....

Another mover was hired at the last moment and helped move half the stuff... my wife, my dog and I had to pack and move the rest... My brother (used to go as Yeti on the HZ) was in the middle of a move as well (and ALSO getting criminally screwed by movers) and was sick from a respiratory illness going around, and so could not help.

Apparently moving companies are in such high demand in Denver that they have no fear of negative reviews- same for apartment complexes. Rent is insane in Denver.

So we spent our time in Denver transporting boxes, helping my mother unpack, and making her new place safer...

The dog had a GREAT time, especially when it snowed almost a foot at the place we were staying... she loves snow. I did not enjoy the snow as much since we were staying with my uncle and I helped shovel a literal ton of snow. My biceps felt like they were torn after that.

I did get to see both my uncles and aunts, I am lucky in that all my extended family is sane, not a MAGA hat among them... We swung through Oklahoma to visit my uncle there- I grew up in Oklahoma, and it crushes my soul to go back there- it was insanely right wing when I was growing up, and has become far crazier since then.... being unvaccinated is a point of pride among a large segment of the population there. The GOP has been working for many decades to dumb down the population in Oklahoma, and it has really paid off.
