They're just gathering data on how they work, how they spread, and how long they last. They're tuning up the technique. Then one day, when they have the dynamics all worked out, they'll launch the mother of all conspiracy theories, something religious, political, or maybe even economic. (Yeah, wouldn't it be a great disappointment if all this social manipulation wasn't designed to support global domination by a sinister World Order, but was just a scheme to promote a product?)
