Elric of Melnibone, with an accent on the last 'e'. March 24, 2023 6:20 pm ER

I’ve just finished reading Book One of Volume One of Michael Moorcock’s ‘Elric Saga’.

It was dreadful.

I started this after hearing some good reviews, but I simply can’t bear to go on any further. I’ve only read some 50 pages, maybe it gets better further in. Are any of you familiar with this work? Should I continue?

It reminds me a bit of Norman Spinrad’s “The Iron Dream”, but that was supposed to be awful, it was a satire.

Help. I can’t pick it up again without some reassurance.

I have an open mind, even about fantasy, I finally came around to LOTR, remember? But so far, this stuff is impenetrable. Am I missing something?
