		<description>The Azov is a strange body of water. Very shallow with a huge incoming sediment load. Might have been more of a playa before the Black Sea flooded after the Mediterranean filled in with rising sea levels at the end of the last ice age. Lots of salt deposits, especially where Crimea joins the mainland. You can see the salt flats there on Google Earth. If you zoom in, you can see the concentric nature of the spit deposits. Just because it doesn&#039;t have hurricanes doesn&#039;t mean it can&#039;t have sustained prevailing cyclonic winds. My guess are the are some buried bedrock structures that act as a buttress?
