Probably a little more to it than rich verses poor. The sub loss was a unique accident, involving a romanticized and historical tragedy that has captured the world's imagination for over a century.

Five rich people verses five hundred poor people. Easy choice for the suits in the programming department.

There used to be a command in UNIX that allowed you to do this kind of text comparison right from the screen, without having to launch any software, Does anyone still use UNIX any more?

I did the comparison,

I opened the text of both interviews in separate editors and compared them line by line. There were many similarities, but no more than you would expect from two back to back interviews of the same person by different reporters, each asking the same obvious newsworthy questions any reporter was bound to ask a knowledgeable government official on the same topic..

Mr Blinken's answers were very similar, in some cases even his choice of words and phrasing, but they were clearly not copies of one another. His answers to similar questions were similar, as you would expect, but no more than would be the case of a man who was interviewed twice, probably within a few minutes of each other.

IOW, there was no hint of any sinister manipulation or propaganda as I originally suspected. Buck was right.

Still, its funny how I suspected the responses were near carbon copies of each other, just from what I remembered of them. (I watched both interviews about an hour apart.) I guess that's how auto-suggestion and confirmation bias works. And how conspiracy theories are born.

<em>"Step out of line, the man comes and takes you away."</em>

No, we don't live in Russia, but look how much the press reported, and how they reported, two separate maritime disasters. Compare how the submersible accident that killed five people and the Mediterranean refugee boat sinking that killed five hundred were presented in our popular press.

I make no accusation of sinister political reasons or hidden mind control for this, I understand the social and economic aspects of mass communication, and the political consequences, and the role played by public awareness and interest of world affairs. Sometimes that's just the way things work out. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Sometimes shit just happens.

Well, Blinken wouldn't give different answers to the same questions. If the questions were the same it's likely because they were the most salient questions.

There's still a free press. We don't live in Russia.
