The inescapable point is the Right is better disciplined, more organized, and more committed to their vision of America than the Left is to theirs. A democracy is no guarantee against demagoguery and tyranny, the ancient Athenians learned that lesson the hard way. I have a feeling we're about to get schooled ourselves. As you have so eloquently implied, it is time to assume the position. Its pretty clear this situation would never have arisen unless a majority of Americans wanted it, or at the very least, were too preoccupied with other things to make an effort to prevent it.
