A partisan look at the Veepstakes July 10, 2024 10:13 am ER

A look at the short list, according to Forbes Magazine.

The comments are my own.

Sen. J.D. Vance, Ohio: The most intelligent, articulate, cynical and opportunistic Republican around, and an all-around highly dangerous man. He’s the one I fear most.

Sen. Marco Rubio, Fla.: The stereotypical Cuban Mama’s boy. (I know because I used to be one, but at least I outgrew it). The left-leaning Hispanics in Miami (and I’ll concede there are damned few of us left ) call him el pendejito (Translation: the little pubic hair). I don’t think he could possibly be from my tribe. No Latino could be supportive of a man who publicly and needlessly insulted his family. Only one other Spic fits that description: Ted Cruz. Get my point?

North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum: A Mike Spence clone, one without a conscience, but plenty of money connections.

Sen. Tim Scott, S.C.: Sycophantic Uncle Tom. But Trump needs a brother on the ticket.

Ben Carson: I thought he died.

Rep. Elise Stefanik, N.Y.: A loyal handmaiden, one with no history of uppitiness like Nikki Halley. And he needs a dame on the ticket.

Rep. Byron Donalds, Fla.: He’s from my home state but I never heard of him.

Sen. Tom Cotton, Ark.: An SNL caricature of a Transylvanian right-wing villain. He checks off all the boxes. Looks like Vlad the Impaler.
