I know this because I'm one of the "childless Left", by design. I never wanted kids, they're an expensive hobby and I had plenty of other plans for my life. I could see how difficult it was for my parents to bring my brother and I up, and I wanted no part of it. This in turn gave me more options in life and a better ability to make wiser career choices.
