Childless cat ladies and the child tax credit August 7, 2024 6:58 pm BuckGalaxy

One of Kamala’s big issues is restoration of the child tax credit which did so much to vastly reduce childhood poverty. The tax credit was part of COVID funding that expired in 2022 and was never restored because Joe Manchin got a stick up his ass and blocked it. It had and has near universal support by both moderate Democrats and progessives.

Interestingly, JD Vance’s proposal that childless families and singles should be taxed at a higher rate than families with children is essentially the same thing. The big difference, Vance and republicans who support the idea present it as a punishment to people without children because there’s something wrong with them. They’re not invested in the future of the country yada yada yada. Democrats advocate it as a program to help families with the high costs of raising children. It’s almost laughable how the GOP is so full of promoting hate, anger, resentment and division they can’t see how stupid they are in the way they present this.
