She jabbed and jabbed and then landed a number of haymakers."Foreign leaders are laughing at Donald Trump.” "Military leaders who worked with you say you're a disgrace." "Inherited $400m and declared banckruptcy six times." “Donald Trump was fired by 81 million people.” Much more and the spinning back kick to Trump's head was the "People getting exhausted and bored and walking out of his rallies."

Also, everytime Harris baited Trump he took the bait. One of the podcasters on Pod Save America likened it to the Roadrunner painting a fake tunnel on a brick wall, and painting the road curving toward it, and then watching Wiley Coyote run into it over and over again.

I think in a week the polls will show a 1-2% bump for Harris and then in about a month everything will be back to square one. Democrats need to keep the pedal to the metal. But the biggest effect out of this debate is that Kamala has proven she is up for the job. In nine years no one has been more successful in a debate against Trump than she was. Some of that has to do with Trump's obvious diminished capabilities from old age. But the orange shitstain didn't just look bad; Harris looked good. And with every test she impressively passes her stature grows.

I suppose it didn't look that way to me because I didn't see a knockout blow, she just seemed to handle herself OK. As for Trump, he gets away with so much buffoonery, and his cultists are so eager to back him up no matter what nonsense he's pushing, I suppose I didn't realize that is finally starting to get old with some of his backers.

I mean, Ohio Haitians eating pets...even stuff like that is starting to become unsurprising any more.

I noticed there were lots of places where he could have been blown away with a simple put-down, but I guess she had been coached not to get into any shouting matches with him--and her coaches certainly made the right call!

Still, it doesn't matter WHO 'won' but how it is PERCEIVED who was the winner. And THAT is using the Right's tactics against them for a change. They have lost control of the narrative.

...just to prove they are 'unbiased'. They also need to sell product to Trumpers as well, so they feel compelled to act as if they are addressing their concerns.

I concur with Sedaris. To vote for Trump because you don't know where Harris stands is absurd. Everybody knows Trump doesn't stand for anything except Trump.

Quote of the day by Michelle Goldberg, NYT Opinion columnist, regarding the endless griping about Harris not defining herself enough:

"There’s that David Sedaris joke about, somebody offers you, like, a maggot-infested dead rat or chicken, and you ask how the chicken is cooked. People who feel like they don’t know enough of where she stands — it’s very hard for me to empathize with somebody who doesn’t know enough of where she stands to not surrender American democracy to this madman who has been not circumspect about his desire to end it."

Harris did almost everything she needed to do. She beat him on every issue, including immigration. She absolutely shredded him on abortion. On international issues she came across as a true Commander in Chief. One of the most powerful moments of the night was when Harris addressed Trump's past racist antics and talked directly to America about how we see each other as friends and neighbors.

Harris looked directly at the camera and spoke to the American people in a sincere, genuine, moderate and reassuring way. She was confident, intelligent, convincing and likeable. And when she spoke to Trump she would look directly at him: "Military leaders I've spoken to tell me you are a disgrace." Trump by contrast would never even look at her, much less look her in the eye. He was hunched over, squinty eyed and looking at the moderators the entire time. He never even looked into the cameras. He was an angry cranky nutjob who looked very OLD. He became fully unhinged when Harris said people were walking out of his rallies, and he stayed unhinged for the remainder of the debate.

The one criticism of Harris was her lack of granular detail on policy. Harris in fact did outline a number of policies: building 3 million homes to make housing more affordable. Bringing back and expanding the child tax credit. Signing a Bill that codifies Roe (they CAN do it if the dems control Congress and eliminate the filibuster). A number of other things. And FFS look at Trump on detailing policy. He said in 2017 he'd release his phenomenal heathcare plan in 3 weeks. Last night, 7.5 years later, he claims he has a concept of a plan. The only policies he's outlined are a 20% tax hike on all imported goods, and rounding up and deporting 11 million brown people. Everything else is puffing about how smart and great he is.

You're right that not a single Trump cultist will be swayed, but Trump didn't win any new votes last night. Harris I'm certain did. I checked the FB pages this morning of a number of my old highschool friends who are committed Trumptards. Every one of them were talking about how terrible ABC was and the moderators who fact checked Trump all of 3 or 4 times. As if that is what changed the outcome of the debate. Even they know in their guts that Trump was clobbered.

In my opinion, it was a draw, she held her own against him, but didn't really land a knockout blow. Trump lied like a sonofabitch all the way through, but that's what he always does, it doesn't seem to faze his groupies.

The opinion of the mainstream media was that she won, by baiting him and because he swallowed the hook every time, but the press is only showing its own bias. I'm sure the Trump press will declare it as a total victory for him. They simply repeat his lies.
The highlight of the whole evening was learning how the Ohio Haitian immigrant community was eating cats and dogs captured on the street! That's funny, South Florida has the biggest Haitian community in the USA and I've never heard it was consuming household pets. Maybe Trump and Vance (the purported originator of this story) don't actually believe this tale, but the Deplorables certainly do.

How can anyone think it is possible to reason with these people? The entire GOP has morphed overnight into a gang of inbred, banjo-plucking, hair-on-their-teeth redneck trailer trash peckerheads.
