I've seen two recent examples. "Illegal alien" went straight past "illegal immigrant" to "undocumented" immigrant because of the negative connotation. It's an attempt to make it "more okay". Now the term is going through one more iteration introduced in the Senate border bill, Non-Citizen". "Yeah, they're living here, but it's okay because they want to become citizens, they just haven't yet." Very recently "Homeless" has become "Unhoused", implying it's the government responsibility to provide housing. IDK, with the changing economy, maybe it should be...
