I don’t have any great advice, because I fail at most of it. And my head is still adjusting to reality. (What else is new?) But here’s my half-assed counsel.

Small things. In the moment. Kind things. To loved ones and strangers alike. I cannot really influence the macro world but I sure as hell can the micro one.

She's opened my eyes to a lot of things. She's going through the same emotions, feeling empty inside and feeling hope is lost. We quit watching the news and she left Twitter where she spent a good part of her day. The fist trump presidency almost ended our relationship. She knows all to well that I used to be a Republican and when her emotions got the best of her, she saw me as the enemy. There's just as much hatred in the left as there is on the right. I don't know if our relationship will survive the coming years. I wish there was something I could do to avoid what's coming. I'm sorry it's come to this, for you, her, and I. The party that pretended to have a monopoly on patriotism will gut the constitution and destroy our democracy. And they will be in a bloodlust to avenge imagined wrongs, outrageous fictions they have been fed by Fox... It will get bloody. Probably worse than our country has seen in at least a century.

And this is what we will be stuck with for the foreseeable future… elections will become a farce.

Should probably make a pot of my chili con carny. That'll take hours. Listen to some progressive music from the 1970's, or earlier, some of that really strange but brilliant stuff, invite friends over, hang out, enjoy product from the local.
