Affect and effect always slow me down and make me think a moment. It's and its doesn't mess me up. Apostrophe for the contraction of "it is" but not for the possessive.

Example: "It's important for America to protect its democracy."

Yeah, but if Goldberg hadn't been invited to that little hootenanny we would never have found out about it. That's why they are going after the free press

The spelling thing is definitely age related, I've noticed 'out of order letters' happening to me too. I usually catch and correct them before I publish, so I know that type of typo seems to be increasing as I get older.

Another one I've noticed getting worse is using the wrong word (where/were, there/their, to/too, hear/here, etc) even when I know perfectly well which is the correct choice.

I gave up on its/it's a long time ago. Trying to remember if there's an apostrophe just slows down my typing.

I've noticed as I age I have an alarming tendency to type letters out of order. I can't count how many times I have corrected my mistakes lately.

I agree Hegaseth is digging a deeper hole by being a lying POS about it and attacking the character of the man who acted responsibly here. Even without including Goldberg in the message loop, the sheer stupidity of using an app like Signal to discuss war plans is beyond belief! Was someone drunk? Hegaseth has a reputation as a serious drinker.

The scandal has now been dubbed: Whiskeyleaks!

Was that an innocent typo or a really malicious pun? 8)

Don't forget to watch "Washington Week with the Atlantic" on PBS. They show it on Fridays where I live but you can always go to their website to catch up if you miss it. Jeff Greenberg is the host, I can't wait to see his comments!
And I can't wait to see who his guests are this week.

Isn't it reassuring that a lefty, liberal journalist has more knowledge of and respect for national security regs than the whole Trump National Security Apparatus?

This whole affair could just blow over if the White House or SecDef just said; "Oops! Our mistake. We're sorry, and it won't happen again." But nooooooooooo. The only way they know to respond to any criticism is by attacking -- “a deceitful and highly discredited, so-called journalist who’s made a profession of peddling hoaxes time and time again.”

These fuckers are not just stupid and mean, they're malignant and toxic. They desperately need to be spanked.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s claimed that “nobody was texting war plans” after news broke that Hegseth and other Trump administration officials discussed plans for an attack against Houthi rebels in Yemen on a text chain that mistakenly included the editor-in-chief for The Atlantic.

“Nobody was texting war plans, and that’s all I have to say about that,” Hegseth said outside a plane in Hawaii when asked about editor-in-chief of The Atlantic Jeffrey Goldberg’s access to the chat.

Hegseth also called Goldberg “a deceitful and highly discredited, so-called journalist who’s made a profession of peddling hoaxes time and time again.”

Fox News political commentator Brit Hume on Monday afternoon pushed back and reposted a video of Hegseth’s comments on the platform X, saying, “Oh for God’s sake, the administration has already confirmed the authenticity of the message.”

What are they going to do, send a bill to Europe after the fact? Knowing Trump, he could try to use it as leverage to get NATO to spend more.

Jeff Goldberg is a highly respected journalist (The Atlantic, Washington Week)
Who is both pro-Israel and anti-Trump. The former is probably why he was put in the loop on this caper, the latter is something that was probably overlooked by the bozos in the White House. Yes, discussing war plans on the Internet is sheer imbecility.

I trust Goldberg, I make it a point to watch his show on PBS every Friday. Of all the Network TV news shows, his is the best, IMO. Jeff has handled this affair superbly. I can see Congress is already in an uproar about it.

Personally, I'm happy to see the Houthis get spanked for all the trouble they're causing, its long overdue. But its pretty clear the primary justification for this strike is to give Trump politics a gold star, not any legitimate National Security reason.
