Here's a story that was making the rounds at the D&S piers in Norfolk, Virginia, when my ship was stationed there. Its probably apocryphal (meaning 'even if its not true, it ought to be').

A Turkish destroyer berthed there on a goodwill visit. The crew went ashore on liberty and the next day, the police showed up to make an arrest. It appears one of the crew had met a girl ashore and he had raped her. The cops came to put him in custody.

The Turkish captain refused to let them aboard and would not turn the man over to the police, saying; "No one comes aboard without my permission. We take care of our own". The cops, afraid of sparking an international incident, withdrew, waiting for further orders from their masters. That evening, about sunset, the Turkish vessel got underway and left before the cops showed up. Needless to say, the Turks left a few days earlier than anyone had expected.

Supposedly, witnesses that were around when the ship left saw her get underway
and noticed a sailor was hanging from the radar mast. That's right: executed.
Strung up. Dead.
