...To the extent that “African American” was designed to change perceptions of what “Black” means, it hasn’t worked. The grand old euphemism treadmill has done it in. Again and again we create new terms hoping to get past negative associations with the old ones, such as “homeless” for “bum.” But after a while the negative associations settle like a cloud of gnats on the new terms as well, and then it’s time to find a further euphemism. With no hesitation I predict that “unhoused person” will need replacement in about 2030...

Government, at all levels, can end homelessness with simple choices: raise taxes and subsidize housing. That’s all it would take. It wouldn’t solve all the other social problems related to poverty but it would house people who are living on the streets.

When a citizen working two jobs can't afford to pay rent or feed his family its not his fault, its the government's. People aren't homeless because they're lazy or stupid or crooked, its because economic conditions have become toxic. And that happens when those who are responsible for those conditions are doing something wrong. Workers are not responsible for determining economic conditions, businessmen are. And only governments have the power to persuade business.

Of course, there will always be people who are sick or handicapped (or just plain stupid or lazy or crooked), but Conservatives cannot explain why these people are suddenly increasing in number. I simply cannot accept that the amount of stupid, lazy and crooked folks isn't CAUSED by economic policy and conditions over which the victims have absolutely no control. They're caused by rich people who don't want to pay taxes.

Sure things like "undocumented" are perhaps a little overly sensitive. There are other examples. But there are some very harsh racist words that are better purged from the commonly used language. Let's take the worst example: the N word. Black people use it among themselves to soften its bite; to attempt to desensitize themselves to it. But to them it is still forbidden to non blacks because it is so painful. One word. One word that so encapsulates so much historical suffering. One word so powerful in its meanness that it revives centuries of slavery, murder, rape, degradation and humiliation by simple saying it. And of course there are other harsh racist words in the language. We're better off without them but sadly our current political climate has made them more acceptable.

Not really, but build more of THESE bombs FFS. They've talked about this Iran underground site for something like a decade now. The pentagon fucked up not having a hundred of these bad boys on hand to make sure this job gets done right.
