There might remain some organization called NASA, but it will exist to serve the profits of billionaires in the good graces of the president.

NASA was the primary scientific agency in the world. That is over. 50% of NASA Goddard is to be eliminated, primarily the scientists… my position will probably be ‘safe’ since its an engineering position in an area they need, but I am not staying… I am looking at offers outside the USA. I am lucky, I have had the years to build up a reputation and contacts… I already have offers, the question is if it is work I want to do. The kids that are just starting out, the ones that worked so hard to make the projects I created a success… they are not so lucky. I have made it clear I will be a reference for them, they all are incredible and I will tell that to any potential employer… I am also working to create positions for them to stay in. The “leadership ” at NASA-GSFC has sold them out, before the budget is approved they will proceed in eliminating 50% of the jobs…they are eager to comply in advance.

Buildings and resources at Goddard will be leased out to industry… I have no doubt there will be kickbacks and bribery involved, but ethical laws only apply to those being fired, or forced to retire. We can’t accept a free lunch from a contractor, but the president can accept a 400 million dollar plane from another country. That is the ethical framework we must work under.

NASA will simply be a way to funnel billions to billionaires. Moon to mars is bullshit, maybe some will go to work for the billionaires, but the fuckers in charge greatly underestimated the options we have.

The US is not just losing the experience and expertise gained over generations, it is losing having all that passed on to the NEXT generation. There is no recovery from this. EVER. Even if you changed administration today, it is too late.

The only role our nation will play in the future of humanity is a negative role. A Decreasingly powerful obstacle for the world to overcome.

The scale of this tragedy really cannot be overstated. The brain drain that has started will be crippling.

But hey, Tom Brosz got the tax cut for billionaires that will never help him, no matter how long he has left… which isn’t that long…

So that makes it worth it, I suppose.
