I’ve never heard of the man before he was shot and killed. I’ve been searching for quotes that would give a clue as to why he was so hated. Most of those quotes are taken out of context.
He wanted to return to the 50′s where women stayed at home and raised their kids. There have been real consequences due to the change, but returning to the past would only benefit white males, or would it. There’s something to be said for the previous importance of the one-income nuclear family.
He talked about gun deaths being a tradeoff between them, and the 2nd amendment. He went on to say that the 2nd wasn’t about hunting rifles. His perception was, the right was given as a way for the country to defend itself from tyranny, not just a foreign invader.
His comments about India ring true in Canada. There’s been a long-growing resentment of immigrants from India, even among liberals who value multiculturalism. Most cities in BC are over-crowded and in some, white people are very much in the minority. Immigrants are blamed for the housing shortage and things like the closing of somewhat cherished restaurants, only to see them replaced by Indian cuisine. It’s well known that business ownership puts you on the fast-track to citizenship. These businesses typically close within 2 years, only to be replaced by more of the same.
His talk about the Gaza war was callous to say the least. But I often remind myself of how Hamas started the war. At the same time, I can’t ignore the history behind the October attack.
The Old Testament says, “Anyone who injures his neighbor is to be injured in the same manner: fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth.” Isreal’s actions represent “you will die for an eye.”
What I did find abhorrent was his reference to the bible verse which says gays should be stoned to death. He referred to it as “Gods perfect law.” Should he have been killed for that? Possibly so.
