I don’t know what this tells us about life in America today, but I’ll share it with you anyway. Somehow it seems significant.

I bought a new pair of jeans today. Imagine you are kneeling in front of me and unbuttoning them, and then pulling down the zipper as if you were helping to undress me, your head roughly level with my waist. Inside the trousers, clearly visible on the seam once the pants are open and printed in small but legible letters, is the message “Lucky You”.

I hope they work for me.
